Question about roller blades and ice skates?

I want to learn ice skating but I can't due to the fact that it doesn't snow where I live plus, ice skating rinks cost a fortune.... If I train on roller blades first before going on ice skating, will that help me when the time comes that I will put on my ice skating shoes for the first time?

Question about roller blades and ice skates?
Rollerblading and ice skating . . . you would use similar muscles groups, so it can help - especially if you are just starting to skate (better than no skating at all, right?). You'll gain experience with transporting yourself with "things" on your feet - and build up strength and steadiness. Obviously the equipment and surface are different from ice skating . . . so keep in mind there will be differences in technique (that's why rollerblading is generally not recommended for already serious figure skaters).

Here's an article . . . something to try if/when you get to that point on your rollerblades!

The experience may help you by the time you do get to go on the ice. Some adapt quickly from the get go - others take more time. Regardless, there will be some adjustment period to get the hang of ice skating.

I find that rollerbladers and rollerskaters transfer to the ice quite well. But, in my opinion, it's a lot harder for figure skaters to transfer to skating with wheels.

Oh - and when you do decide to train on ice - go for group lessons - that's the least expensive way to go!

Good luck!
Reply:watch the movie : "cutting the edge"

:-)

Its fun to rollerblade.

But you are gonna be surprised at the absence of friction (and speed) on the ice - and land on your ****!!

:-) which is ok to start with :-p
Reply:should help with balance and what-not, but rollerskating and ice skating are different when it comes to actually doing it... i sugges you try finding your balance on the skates, but try not to get too used to it lol

xx
Reply:roller blading and ice skating are very different. both different type of skates on different surfaces. roller blading can help you with balance so that you can balance with ice skating. but i can't guarantee you will be a good ice skater if you are a good roller skater. but it will be a little easier to ice skate if you've had some [roller] skating experience
Reply:it wont help you ive been skating since i was little and i did gymnastics too....it wont help you because the ice is slippery..so my suggestion to you is move somewhere else or tell your parents or who ever to go to work more often...
