My skates are too loose by the ankle, how can I make them tighter?

they loosen up too quickly and it affects my skating how can i keep them tight? I already use the laces to go aroung my ankle but they still loosen up.

i played ice hockey for a year and roller hockey for years, i had that propblem and a quick fix to that is go get some hockey tape and just tape it, if the whole shoelace thing doesnt work out, honestly just tape it, its easy and cheap
Reply:you could use a wax lace there made to stay tight and wont losen im a girl goalie and i had that problem also i tried it and it worked it the best i would recomend that!!
Reply:Don't lace around your ankle.

Try buying a nice new pair of laces, for a start. Then lace up tightening each time as you go, and overtighten at your ankle. Just before you tie your bow - again, do *not* lace around your ankle, it's a rookie move and it will make your problem worse - really haul in hard. Then tie your bow, and tie a double knot.

With a good new pair of laces and the double knot, it should be more than sufficient.

If you're a new skater, it's not your laces. It's your foot and ankle.

It takes time to build strength and get steady on your skates. I wear my skates pretty loose, particularly at the top. I like having a lot of room to bend my ankles, and don't like my skate getting in the way of my mobility.

I'm steady on my skates, even when I lace loosely. It comes from practice. Keep working at it!
