Sounds like you are talking about Rollerblade's ABT brakes.

They created it for beginners but it looks like they have even removed them from most of their entry level skates.

The ABT brake feels safer at first but does not stop as well as a standard brake. The best thing about them is that they can get a beginner into skating until they can use it as an adjustable standard brake.

I couldn't find many skates with them on their web site. It may be that they discovered that they really wern't worth having.

I did find it in their Bladerunner line on the APEX ABT M

but it looks like it only comes in children's sizes

If you look at the picture, you will see the mechanism that runs from the cuff to the brake. That is a good way to quickly glance at the skates and tell if they have the ABT brake.

If you look at your local stores or online, you may find some of the models that had them still in stock.

Stores that also have online ordering:

Sports Authority http://www.sportsauthority.com/category/...

Dick's http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/catego...

Online stores

www.skates.com

The problem with ordering online is that you can't try on several skates to see which ones fit well.
