How often are you supposed to sharpen your ice skates?

How often are you supposed to sharpen your ice skates?

How often are you supposed to sharpen your ice skates?
Depending on how often you skate depends on how often you should sharpen them. Generally they say about 20 hours of skating before you get them sharpened, but you will learn to do it more or less depending on how you like your skates.
Reply:Depending on how much you skate, it is either every 3-6 weeks or every 18-20 hours.
Reply:depends on...

-how often you skate

-the type of skating that you are doing (ice dance, synchro, free skate)

-the type of blade that you have

-the quality of ice that you skate on

-the age of your blade
Reply:it depends i skate every week for 5 hours 3 traning sessions and i am a goalie i sharpen them mabey1s a mont but my freands say once every two weeks

just get your nail and run the back of your nail on one of the edges and depending on how much nail comes of is dependent of ho much sharpening you need

its really a personal thing you need to get your skates sharpend when you think they need it but dont do it to much becouse you will ware the blade down.
Reply:It depends on how much you skate, how hard you skate . . . and your preference! Rough ice and walking around even on the rink mats without your guards can dull your blades faster too.

They generally say 20-30 hours of skating. If your blades start getting dull, your blades can't grip the ice properly . . .essentially you'll be slipping . . . and even if it's slight, it can affect your spins and jumps!

I personally loved dull blades. But I left it for so long and didn't sharpen them til they were really bad. The longer you leave them, the bigger the adjustment you will probably have to make after you get them sharpened (and you WILL notice your "new" edges - oh you will feel like you're sticking to the ice!!). So I don't recommend extending your sharpening time too long!! On the flip side, if you sharpen them too often, you shorten the life of your blades.

What does mean when your whells on your hockey skates loose grip?

well my whells on my inline roller hockey skates felll really soft and i cant stop that well and I slide when i try to stop what does this mean?

What does mean when your whells on your hockey skates loose grip?
I think that you have bigger problems than losing the grip on your wheels, for example, spelling wheels not whells...
Reply:Are you using the correct wheels for the surface you're on? You could be using outdoor wheels on an indoor surface.

If you are using indoor wheels, you could have lots of dust accumulated.
Reply:Are you are using outdoor wheels on a sport court? This is what it sounds like. Use indoor wheels inside and outdoor ones outside. Are the worn out? You should rotate your wheels every other time you skate so the wear evenly . Maybe its time for new wheels.
Reply:You probably have gotten something on them, clean them with rubbing alcohol and you should be good to go....other wise try finding softer indoor wheels

How can I get a stuck wheel off my skates?

I have boxer quad skates for derby. I finally bought some outdoor wheels and I was playing with them tonight. I cannot get the back right (right boot) wheel off to save my life.

I tried some oil but it's not budging. It looks like the bearing is a tad dented on the inside (towards the center) but otherwise it looks ok. I'm at a loss. I can't even pop the wheel off the bearing! Any help would be appreciated!!

How do you make a new pair of hockey skates not so stiff?

I just got a new pair of hockey skates, and I need them tomorrow for hockey early in the morning. Does anyone know a way to make them so they wont hurt my feet. In a FAST way?

How do you make a new pair of hockey skates not so stiff?
well really, theres not much you can do for it.

you have to break them in so wear them around

just dont walk on the rug;]

=)
Reply:The only way I know is to wear them today, and also keep stretching them, and if you know someone with bigger feet they should wear them and stretch them
Reply:You are basically talking about breaking the skates in overnight. It's not going to happen. Icing's suggestion used to work with the old leather skates, unfortunately there are so many synthetic materials in new skates that the suggestion will not do so well with the vast majority of new skates.

The only suggestion I have for you is to tie the top eyelets of skates looser than you normally would. Tie the lower eyelets as tight as normal to hold the sole of your foot against the foot bed. What you are asking for is increased flexibility from the boot. This will not provide any more flexibility from the boot, but will allow you to get more flex in your ankle. Make sure to get on the ice early for warm-ups, it may take some trial and error to get the right feel.
Reply:well when i got my skates they heated them up in a mini oven and then the molded my feet into it (sports check) so you can risk it and put in in a oven and then put it on your feet. It takes 30 hours off to break them in on ice.
Reply:Its probably too late in the day, but some of the hockey shops will heat the skates to get them to fit better. I don't know if that actually softens it.

Take a hair dryer and heat the inside of the skate, aim down the boot. This will get the leather warmed up.

Put on a pair of slightly wet / damp socks (not dripping wet), and strap in the skates. Take your hair dryer and heat the outside of the skates. If you can, stand up in them so that your feet spread out stretching the leather.

Do this for about 15 minutes. The leather should stretch and soften a bit.

I don't guarantee this, but I think this is how the used to do it in the day.

Fast way do brake the ice in my new skates?

i just got new skates and i want to brake the ice fast with them is there any good and fast waY?

Fast way do brake the ice in my new skates?
at first, do lots of knee bends, and edges to get into your boot. crossovers, and maybe some waltz jumps are a good idea too. Whenever i get new skates, my coach has me do axels and doubles the first day. Also putting them on at home an walking around will help break them in.
Reply:to brake in your skates faster try to do some deep knee bends. If the blades are not mounted on yet then it is easier. But, if they are then make sure you have your blade covers on. If they are heat moldable then have the people at the store where you buy them from heat mold them.If they are heat moldable you can use a hair dryer at home. Once you have them home do deep knee bends and streches. If you want to break in your skates really fast and they are really stiff then you can wet a pair of socks and put your skates on . I know it feels icky but it is the fastest way to brake in your skates. Belive me. Remeber to skate in small intervals when you first get them as to not get horrible blisters.

have fun skating!
Reply:Lots of crossovers and swizzles/grapevines/wiggles...to help you get some flexibility in the ankles. Also, don't tie them all the way up....don't use the top hooks until you feel you have flexibility in your ankles. Unfortunately, breaking in skates takes time. It takes having your feet in them, sweating (yeah, I know it sounds gross), and moving in them to get them to feel right for your feet. Try wearing them at home a little (with your guards on of course) to get a little more time in with them! Good luck!
Reply:walk in them with the blade guards on around the house. thats what i did and they broke in just fine.

Reply:Wear them around the house w/your guards on.

Last Night I dream a couple of kids in skates beeing run over by a dark car, what does that means?

First I'm standing in one sidewalk when I see to kids with rollers or skates running down the opposite sideway by the driveway of some house, so a white car merely hit them but they get up quickly. Behind that car is another car (both sedan) but black, the kids again gets down to the street and I saw the car run over them ! then I run to help and almost step over what seems to be the kidds brain... OMG I can't get rid of that gross image... but what does that means? please psycology and parapsycology answer needed. Thanks.

Note: I posted this question in another section, someone told me and so I post it here. Aditional data: I'm married with two children.

Last Night I dream a couple of kids in skates beeing run over by a dark car, what does that means?
The white sedans seem to represent lesser and greater versions of some danger. Thus, while the kids only get knocked down by the white car, they get run over completely and killed by the dark car.

The cars could also represent your ideas of 'lesser' and 'greater' danger. You think the lesser danger will only knock them down, but that the greater danger will strongly affect them, and yourself.

Kids running on the opposite side of you suggests to me that they are heading in a different direction than you. Thus, it could be that this 'different' direction, in your mind, is synonymous with the dangers you feel that you can't protect them from.

The 'gross image' is basically a worst-case scenario that you feel that you have to deal with, but emotionally are trying to avoid altogether. In other words, you can't help them if they get hurt if you get traumatized by their brains lying all over the place.

BTW, brains could be a metaphor for 'images' and or 'thoughts'. In other words, it's not the kid's brains that are horribly gross and lying all over the place, it's yours. Helping people means that we need to be able to see clearly, without our emotions dragging us into hysterical thoughts and actions. It could be that, as a parent, you have this strong desire to help your kids, but the desire to help is making you think of all these horrible things that could happen, which isn't helping you or your kids out at all.

Your dream is probably telling you that having these horrible ideas isn't helping you or them, so the sooner you approach whatever the situation is rationally, the easier you will sleep at night.
Reply:it meand your gay and dream about little kiddies perv queer fag hoomoo
Reply:you are probably worried about your kids, especially if they are in rollerskating age.
Reply:If you have experienced any car accident or anyone you know has that is a symptom.
Reply:To see young people skating on roller skates, foretells that you will enjoy good health, and feel enthusiastic over the pleasures you are able to contribute to others.

To dream of someone or something being hit and thrown from a vehicle foretells hasty and unpleasant news.

To dream of a dead child, denotes worry and disappointment in the near future.

I hope this helps!!!
Reply:it sounds like anxiety about your children and their safety. people work through their anxiety in their sleep. it's normal and nothing to stress about ... might want to go to bed earlier tonight ... intense dreams are often a sign of fatigue.

How much bigger in size can I by my son's hockey skates?

In order to avoid having to buy skates again next season (hopefully getting s seasons out of a pair), how much bigger can I buy the skates? 1 size? 2 size?

How much bigger in size can I by my son's hockey skates?
Buying them too big is not a good idea. Skates need to fit properly!!!!

At his age they will need new skates every year, unfortunately. But, most places have a decent trade in policy, as they realize kids grow out of skates yearly.
Reply:0 sizes. You can't get skates too big- they will hurt his feet and be less effective.

my advice is to get a used pair at play it again sports or a similar place- some large pro shops have used skates- until he slows down growing.
Reply:I think you'll be okay buying them half a size bigger so he has a little room to grow. When my little bro got his skates the guys at the pro shop said that would be fine. Take him to a pro shop and have the guys there fit him. If you buy the skates there, you might pay a little more, but the service you'll get should be worth it. Plus, a lot of times you get some free sharpening. Or you can have them fit him and then buy the skates that fit him off the internet. Good luck. :)
Reply:Check with a sports store, they now have adjustable ice skates that will "grow" with your child. They are more expensive at first but cheaper than buying 2 or 3 pair.
Reply:Skates need to be the right size. You can get away with slightly larger, but that's about it. My son usually goes through one pair of skates a season, but when he's had growth spurts it's been two pairs. Just keep in mind ... if you can't skate well, you can't play hockey well. Skating is the foundation of the sport. Play it Again Sports is a great place for used skates. We've traded up there many times. I've tried eBay a couple of times, but it's difficult to buy skates without trying them on and they usually don't work. However, it's a great place for breezers, and other equipment. Good luck to you!
Reply:You should get the right size, if necessary, only a half size larger. I understand skates can be expensive, but it can really damage your ankles and feet if the skates are too big.
Reply:Skate need to be the proper size to give good ankle support. I have seen kids with the wrong size and they have trouble with their balance.
Reply:you can gradually go from two pairs of socks, down to no socks so get him trying skates on double socked. Probably a size and a half larger.Ultimately the best way to skate is with no socks I always went bare footed it actually helps your feet stay warmer.

Jusy keep them tied tight use a skate key and be sure they are snugged up.
Reply:buy them his size.if he likes his skates tite then his size.if not then 1 size up
Reply:Don't fool around with skates. Buy them the correct size or you son will have painful feet.

How much do u have 2 pay if u have ur own ice skates in queens icerink in london.the website is wrong about £9

i usually pay £7.00 to enter including the ice skates hire. im not talking about lessons its just playing around in the ice rink.

How much do u have 2 pay if u have ur own ice skates in queens icerink in london.the website is wrong about £9
It's possible that if you are "younger", you may pay less for admission (and that admission price is not online). Out here, a couple rinks charge less for "children 12 and younger" and another for "17 and younger" . . . 1 or 2 US dollars or so less.

If their website is indeed incorrect, let them know! That price online is for open/public skating (not lessons). It's possible too that they raised the prices.

In inline hockey, how do you stop? I see they use their skates but are they a special kind of skates?

Like it wont work on the street with my aggressive inline skates. I am starting on a team soon!

In inline hockey, how do you stop? I see they use their skates but are they a special kind of skates?
its just like ice hockey where you turn your skates as you want to slow down, but unlike ice you have to have a feel for the grip that your wheels are taking on the surface. Or start out like a ice hockey stop and just keep turning in a tight circle, you wont actually stop which is better because you will keep your momentum.
Reply:Fall face first and drag your lips on the ground until you come to a complete stop.
Reply:like this ... "eerrrrrrrr"
Reply:turn backwards and slide either skate behind at a 45 degree angle so it slides and you don't go boom, kinda like ice skating but the wheels are very hard to slide unless you angle them.
Reply:Form a " T " with your feet or stop like you would in ice hockey if you feel like you're ready.

How can i teach myself to do a waltz jump (on ice skates) without lessons for it?

i just got back into skating and i wanted to learn a waltz jump. the best jump tht i can do now is a bunny hop. i have a friend who can easily show me, but i wanted to show her after i learn so she will wonder how i learned to do it since she has been teaching me all of the tricks tht i know. please tell me very easy steps tht i can do on my own on igure skates. thank you.

How can i teach myself to do a waltz jump (on ice skates) without lessons for it?
start out skating backward, lift up your left foot a little bit, raising it behind you,

Turn a little bit, followign your left shoulder and hop onto your left foot.

Take it slow, small, low foot work and keep practicing.

Or- if there are little girls skating around the rink that look like they know how, ASK them. They would think it was pretty cool to be able to teach someone older
Reply:stand at a barrier with you right foot on the outside.. left foot near the barrier--- then holding on (but still standing still) swing you right leg back and pass it through.. hop up just like a bunny hop but turn backwards and land on the right foot (the foot you swung through..) you can use the barrier to get the idea of the motions down.. then try the blue line (or any line will do) and do the same thing.. (IF you Already know how to skate backwards you can try it form that after you mastered it slowly this way!!!!) best of luck.. e-mail me if you want iceskating0406@yahoo.com
Reply:The easiest way to describe a waltz jump without a demonstration is that (if you are righ handed), glide forwards on your left foot and hop to backwards (1/2 turn) landing on your right foot. You can get more advanced starting backwards etc but to start just stand still and give a little push onto your left foot. When turning make sure you turn counter clockwise. I've had kids that like to try to rotate the other way...let's just say it doesn't work too well!

If you think about your bunny hop, you glide on your left foot and kick your right foot forward to jump. Well for the waltz jump you are going to kick that foot forward and turn at the same time. Good luck!!
Reply:I read other answers that people have put and i advise you not to do the first step that everyone has put. I have skated for about 10 years so i know what i am doing. The first time you try to do it you should be doing it by not skating backwards. The first step is to stand on the blue line on the ice. Make a T out of your ice skate. put your right foot all the way face right and you left facing forward put the heel of your left foot right in the middle of your right. Then you put your arms together your fist against your chest. Then push your left foot forward and push in a half cicrle to the left. Then once you have done this move on to jumping. Set up the same but instead of pushing jump up and turn to the left. The rule of jumping is up and out. so when you jump follow through with you right leg so have your left foot planted and you right foot will lift up and then turn backwards. To do this ont he ground will help you develop muscle memory. Once you have That just practice pulling your arms in tight and once you land on your RIGHT foot exstend your left to have a good clean ending. Remember when you jump to put your left foot over your right. Once you do good with that then you can try it by going backwards. And thats how you do it!! If you want to know how to do other things just ask some one who you can go and skate with. But lessons really will help!!
Reply:it matters which foot u start off with. but i will just say right, from gliding backward pick up ur right foot but keep on gliding. after around four seconds make a t position with ur right foot in front and start gliding on ur right foot and pick up ur left foot (kick it into the air) and land on ur left foot. if u need any help on it u can email me meiraizkewl@yahoo.com
Reply:to start from a standstill:

1. stand with you left foot infront of your right foot forming a T and hold your arms straight out in front of your body

2. push with your right left and allow the outside edge of your let skate to move forward and push your arms back and bend your left leg .

3. lift your right foot and jump up while you pull your arms in. make suure both legs are straight in the air and make a half turn

4. land on the outside edge of your right foot

to start with backwards crossovers:

1. skate backwards

2.glide backwards on your right inoutside edge

3. step forwards on your left outside edge and push your arms back

4. follow steps 3 and 4 from the standstill position

its sorta hard to describe with out giving a demonstration

i would advise you to try the standstill method because it is much easier.

Im a hockey goalie at the house level and will probably move onto highschool level next year, Goalie skates?

I play with regualr player skates, well because im one of the few hockey players with a tight budget, and happen to be a goalie. I was able to find all my equipment used and good priced, when it came to goalie skates i couldnt find a pair used let alone for under 200 dollars. I think its because of sizing. I mean the used store near me has Nike Bauer and other great skates used for like 20 dollars. I currently play with Bauer player skates, on a scale 1-10 how much will goalie skates increase my preformance, and are they necessary? Where can i find a cheap used pair around size 11's, why are they so much more than regular ones?

Im a hockey goalie at the house level and will probably move onto highschool level next year, Goalie skates?
If your playing ice hockey i would highly advice goalie skates, but for roller hockey it doesn't make that big a difference. You can probably find some older skates that aren't highlow if your really all that considered.
Reply:Like all goalie equipment, skates are basically a specialty item and I doubt there are many people trading in their old skates. Specialty items are more expensive because the more you make of something, the less it costs to make. So regular player skates are relatively cheap to produce, but goalie skates aren't. Also they're specially reinforced, which is more expensive to produce.

Most "player" skates don't really have that much in them, or special technology, even the $300 or 400 skates, just stiffer materials.

I'd definitely try ebay or certain online sites like hockeygiant, hockeymonkey.com, cyclone taylor, etc. If you're lucky you'll find a used pair as your first ones, otherwise save up and prepare to make the transition later. Since you already seem to know your exact size for different brands, it will help you a lot with ordering online. Ask a parent or adult friend to help out if you don't have a way to buy (cc or debit card) online and pay them the cash.
Reply:It will make a HUGE difference, though they do take a little getting used to. This coming from someone who had Graf 705's (the very best player skates IMHO) when I got a pair of CCM 852 goalie skates .. it helped so much. You're lower to the ice so it's easier to drop down in butterfly and stop the low shots. MUCH more side protection because of the plastic cowling. (on player skates you just have the protection that comes from the boot, on goalie skates it's like a 2nd level) In roller if you can't get goalie specific ones what you could do is put smaller (like aggressive style 59mm) wheels it will help but it's not the same. I too am on a tight budget, but like the quote I saw on goaliestore.com "The best goalies enjoy every minute on the ice". And the more you enjoy it, the more confident you will be, the more confident you will be, the better you will play. :) Have fun and enjoy your new skates.
Reply:yes big difference, try Ebay good deals
Reply:why dont you just go to the pro shop and buy a pair!

Goalie skates are designed for what goalies do, you can shuffle back and forth easier, they fit your pads so that they are closer to the ice, you can slide better because you can dig into the ice more!

They are also big for protection, i played varsity and when those shots hit you, they hit you hard! Thats why there is a protective covering on the toe of goalie skates - its there so you dont break your toes.

Also for goalie skates where the blade and boot meet there isnt a big gap so a puck and stick cant get though

Does that help?

Im considering upgrading and buying a good pair of Graf hockey skates.?

Anyone have any personal experiance with the performance of "higher end" skates opposed to intermediate level skates? Obviously i dont want to pay more just for the name. thats why im trying to get some opinions of people with some personal knowledge on the subject. Thanks

Im considering upgrading and buying a good pair of Graf hockey skates.?
thing is with Graf you are paying more for the performance than just sponsorship and SOME features. any skate they make is high quality. I had a pair of 705's several years ago and loved them to death until I regretfully outgrew them. if you can afford them you will not regret this !! but like any skate how often you skate, if you're a forward or defenceman, and even how much you weigh, can help determine which model would suit you best.

There are MANY downtowns in the world!!

Try this rink locator (US or CANADA) . . . put in your state and the city your downtown is in, and it should list all the rinks in that area and possibly a web link if they have one.

Or this rink locator (US or Canada):

How do I know what bearings are best for in-line skates?

I want to really get a pair of rollerblades this summer..but I want to make sure that what im getting is good! I want to get these BladeRunner ones, they are called Bladerunner Pro XT In-Line Skates for women. in the description for them, its says this--A rigid aluminum frame holds 78-mmm polyurethane wheels and ABEC 7 bearings.

• Bearing Rating: ABEC 7 High speed precision bearings designed strictly for performance and speed in mind.

• Chassis Material: Aluminum Strong material with a lightweight design.

It sounds good..but I just want to be sure that the bearings are good on the skates..ill be doing a lot of outside rollerblading..so i wouldnt want to buy something and then tear them up. :) thanks :)

How do I know what bearings are best for in-line skates?
Any bearing abec 5 or higher is a good bearing to use. I'm not much of a rollerblader but use to be in the past and always skateboarded and it's all the same ratings for bearings. Getting some abec 7's would be great, bones makes some of the best bearings to use. Swiss is also another measurment for bearings and the bones swiss bearings are really good and lost a long time, longer than abec bearings. check them out i'll post a link, good luck hope it helps.

Reply:they're good bearings. Just make sure you clean your bearings regularly if you're going to be doing a lot of outside skating.

Anyone have any personal experiance with the performance of "higher end" skates opposed to intermediate level skates? Obviously i dont want to pay more just for the name. thats why im trying to get some opinions of people with some personal knowledge on the subject. Thanks

the easton stealth series is more than just a name. the s15 is the lightest skate in the world and i couldn't be happier with them.

What is a cheap place to buy roller skates for girls in Topeka, Kansas?

I am looking for a cheap place to buy roller skates !or a 10 year old size 7 and a half!

What is a cheap place to buy roller skates for girls in Topeka, Kansas?
Visit the pro shop at Sk8away, Inc. That is a roller skating center in your area that offers skate sales in addition to skating sessions and activities.

The rink site is here:

http://www.sk8away.net/

The online catalog is here:

http://www.rcsportsinc.com/

Location:

Sk8away, Inc.

815 Fairlawn

Topeka, Kansas 66606

785-272-0303

Use the web links to check out their wares, but your best bet is to visit the rink in person during operating hours. The advantage of purchasing skating equipment at a skating facility is the one-on-one help you can get in selecting and fitting equipment. You will also have a respected resource if you ever need parts or service.

If your 10 year old skater is new to the sport, ask about lessons for a safe start while you are selecting skates.

What is the letter mean when sizing inline skates?

I'm looking for a good pair of roller hockey skates, and all the pairs I see have a letter attached to the size like 10R or 10D. What does that mean?

in figure skating (which is the topic you put this question under) it means width but i've never seen an r used for width

Is it possible to grind on inline fitness skates?

im going to get a pair and the aggresive ones aare kinda pricy, i'm not going to even grind that much, i just want to know that if i wanted to , i could. also, can i do other tricks on them? like the spins and stuff? sorry these'll be my first pair (transition form skateboard to inline skates)

Is it possible to grind on inline fitness skates?
You can definitely do spins and skate transition with them. You could also do frontside and backside grinds, but you would have to take out the middle two wheels first. You could do soul tricks as well, but you'd have to lean in a lot, because the soul space is more like a crevice.

What should I look for in buying hockey skates?

I am new in hockey and was wondering what are some important details that i should look for in hockey skates.

What should I look for in buying hockey skates?
the most important thing is the fit u want them TIGHT!!!!!! i would reccomend anything ccm or bauer
Reply:how did i win best answer, i answered it in like 5 seconds. whatever thanks and PEACE Report It

Reply:fit, it's all about the skate that works for you and your game. yeah, you want a quality skate, but pretty much any skate is good if it works for you. most manufacturers have two lines of skates. if i was you, i would try on the Mission AG and XP, the bauer supreme and vapor, the ccm vector and rbk lines, some grafs (i don't like them so don't really know the models), and the Easton stealth and synergy lines. whichever one fits best, find the model in your price range and get it. if you don't have a shop that's gonna carry all the brands, most will have both bauer lines, ccm, and rbk. try those 4 lines and one should work for you.
Reply:nto to tkae away formt eh other answers here (they're great) but you should o to a pro shop to be fitted out. they know as much if not much more then anybody here, and they cans see you. that's important. they can see your foot shape, they can see your height, approximate weight, so on and so forth. they can see if you're still growing or not and all that. It's important.

however, general guidelines: (pretty much the same)

Get skates that fit. heat mold them. pro shops can do that, but if you know it can be done with that skate you can do it at home. (I won't go into that now)

Buy used if you can. Play it again sports is good, If you're in the north it's a better bet, just because there's a wider selection.

Skates should fit so that your toes are in the very front of the boot. when your foot is slided all the way forward you should be able to fit one finger and no more behind your ankle.

good luck!
Reply:Many people will tell you to buy a certain brand or a certain model of skate. Not to knock on those that have done this, but it is bad advice. Your foot, my foot and their feet are not the same and what works for us may not work for you. What Zapacity said earlier is true, Fit, Comfort, Performance and Value are keys, I will only elaborate on these.

You will want to buy the BEST skate that you can afford. There is nothing worse than a pair of skates that just don't do what you want and worse yet don't feel great on your feet. The rest of your equipment won't tend to make you feel miserable if it isn't exactly perfect. Your skates, however, need to be as perfect as you can get them to be. Find a good Hockey store that has experienced staff and carry many different brands so that you can try on several different skates. Then pick the one that feels the best on your feet and can give you plenty of performance as you get better.
Reply:The most important thing is fit. Much like clothes or shoes, skates from different manufacturers are cut differently. Depending on your foot, one brand may fit you better than another. Because of this, you should try on every brand available before making a purchase.

You can save some money buying online, since this sounds like it will be your first pair, be sure to go to a pro-shop and get fitted if you go that route. Bauer, CCM/RBK, Graf and Easton all make very light weight, high quality skates. You really cannot go wrong with whichever you choose.
Reply:im not much of a hockey player But it depends if your just starting or are experienced at hockey'my advice wud be jus 2 get the cheaper ones as you start to play and gradually build up,or if ur expierienced get expensive ones
Reply:Blades
Reply:comfort, durability, weight, if they break in easily, how well they allow you to move, if it fits good(Reebok skates are wider than others). I personally like easton the best. if your gonna spend a lot then get the stealth 15 or stealth 11. if not get the stealth 7 or synergy 500. all by easton.
Reply:woohoo 2 points
Reply:Comfort's always good. And, like the answer above me, make sure that they're not loose. You'll end up looking like you're trying to cover your dress with your ankles if you wear loose skates. (Think of how Marilyn Monroe covered her dress with her knees...now, just lower that to the ankles. Bingo...that's what you'll get)
Reply:A boot, laces, and a blade. jk, kinda. you need all those things and you need to feel comfortable in them. you won't skate good if you are hurting in the skates. good luck. i like bauers by the way
Reply:Fit, comfort, performance and value.

FIT

Hockey skates should be sized 1-2 sizes smaller than your shoe size. When the skates are laced up and your knee is bent at a 45 degree angle, your toes should be lightly brushing the front.

COMFORT

Slight discomfort when first wearing new skates is common, but you should not have any severe, localized pain. Heat molding can also help form the boot to your foot morphology and reduce the potential discomfort in the 'breaking in' process.

PERFORMANCE

This is largely defined by the boot weight and stiffness. The lower the weight, the quicker you can move your feet and the more energy you'll save over the course of a game. The stiffer the boot, the more support you'll have and the more power and energy transfer you'll have in your stride.

VALUE

There are many good deals to be had on previous years' models. Since you're new to the sport, you won't need the top of the line bells and whistles many companies offer. Your best bet is find a pro shop where you can try some skates on and determine which brand and/or model best fits your foot, your needs and your budget.

Remember, you're looking for a solid, sturdy product, not the 'Ferrari' of the skate world. Once you've determined your preferences, you need to do some browsing on the net to find out what the market price is for your desired model.

Look to maximize the features and benefits of a particular skate within reasonable range of your budget. A $200 investment should get you an adequate product, but a $300 purchase will get you product that will easily carry you for a couple of years (assuming your feet aren't still growing).
Reply:Well You Definetely Want Them To Be Tight And You Want To Be Able To Move Your Ankles. If Your Thinking Of Types The Best Skates I Have Found Are The Bauer Vapor XXX (30's) / Or The Nike Bauer XXXX (40's). They Are The Ones I Use And They Are Lite Durable And Last Forever.

What is the best way to break new skates in and how long does i take?

i just got a pair of jackson freestyle skates how long and what is the best way to break them in?

What is the best way to break new skates in and how long does i take?
I would suggest leaving the top eyelet or two undone on your skates, and then also buy some round cosmetic pads that you can put where your skates may be rubbing you. Also when you are breaking them in don't skate for super long periods of time, and re lace them often. Depending on how often and how long you skate depends on how long it takes you to get them broken in, which I would say would be maybe about a month. Good luck!
Reply:It takes about a week or 3 hours of practicing hard core. make sure that you do alot of ankle movement so that the fabric is losened sorta and then you are able to move freely.
Reply:Well, heat moldable boots are great because you can shape them to your foot and reduce some discomfort. However the best thing is to keep them a little loose then normal and do basic edges and warm ups for a few days. You can do singles if you want but I honestly see no point in going for big jumps, which some skaters try to do.

Also, two things. One, some say to wear them around the house. I guess that works but it's a bit different then on the ice and you might shape them a bit differently.

Two, I've heard that you can put on damp socks and wear them to stretch it out, but I personally wouldn't. You can look into it but I didn't think it'd be a good idea.
Reply:It will take 2-5 Weeks but is you walk in them with guards on at home and skate in them alot they wont take more then 2-3 weeks. Make sure to use them!
Reply:it takes at the most a month but at the least about 2 in a half weeks if u have ones wiht good support.
Reply:It usually takes 2 weeks to a month depending on how often you use them. It took my skates 2 and a half weeks to break them in because they were very stiff Riedells and I went nearly every day. But this doesn't mean you have to skate for very long periods of time straight. Keep the first two eyelets unlaced and stop to relace them every once in a while.

Make sure you go ice skating a lot and get the feel of your new skates. You can also walk in them alot with your guards on at home to promote breaking them in.

You can use "corn cushions" which are circular foam pads applied onto the foot with a corn to ease the pain. Put these on "bony" spots (ankle etc) so you reduce friction and blisters.

It depends on the material and your model. The more advanced skates you get, the harder it is to break them in.

Good luck!
Reply:Use them everyday for two-three weeks, or there abouts, that's the easiest way. Depends upon material of the skates, and how long you wear them, how long it will take to break them it.

the best thing to do is get your feet measured when you go to by your skates

your foot size, shape, or width could have changed and there is a possibility your feet might not be equal, one could be bigger, wider, or a different shape then the other foot
Reply:i think they run a little bit smaller so, u might want 1 size bigger than ur normal size, but i think they make ur feet sore no matter what
Reply:1/2 a size bigger.

the girl above me said if it isnt comforable go 1 size up instead, not true.

its not supposed to be comfortable because your supposed to break them in. they are supposed to basicly be like a second skin to your foot, but kinda not like THAT tight either. only go up 1/2.
Reply:half size bigger if that still isn't comfortable than get a whole size bigger but don't go any bigger than that.
Reply:I'd say a ten. I'm a five in most shoes, but I have to wear a size seven in figure skates (with socks on), otherwise they bleed.
Reply:I would suggest going to your local pro shop and having them size you for skates. Depending on the brand and type of skate depends on what size of skate you may have. Good luck!
Reply:a really big skate big foot
Reply:are you a figure skater? or do you just go skating alot and use your own skates?

if you are a figure skater:: get yours custom fitted. thats what i have done since i started when i was four, and i have never had a problem

if you just skate for fun:: i would recommend getting recreation ice skates. they are great, they have the blade of a figure skate but the boot looks like a tennis shoe. they are great. when my non-figure skating friends come on the rink with me, they use those. and they're absolutely perfect. i'll attach a link === http://www.skates.com/riedell-soft-boot-...

What can you tell me about K2 inline Skates???

I am looking for a good pair of skates and everyone has told me that K2s are the best. The main thing I am looking for is a smooth comfortable ride. I am considering buying these

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/24031072/c/...

Would these suit my needs?? Are these good quality?

Thanks in advanced!

What can you tell me about K2 inline Skates???
K2 and Rollerblade make very equivalent skates. All of the ones from both companies are good quality.

The ones you are looking at are on the low end. I would suggest moving up to at least 80mm wheels and an aluminum frame. They will roll better.

90mm wheels will ride even smoother. 100 is likely to be too much for a novice.

I suspect that playsguitars has not looked at skates for a while. 5 wheel skates have been out of the racing scene for a while, replaced by 100mm wheels.

I don't think that either Rollerblade or K2 sells any.

I do like 5 wheel skates, mine have 5 84mm wheels and I would love to try out 5x90s but to get new ones now would require buying the frames (that cost more than the Athena skates) seperately and mounting them on the boots.
Reply:I've heard only good things about K2's. never sure about specific specs, but a 5-wheel designed for speed skating will give you the most smooth fast ride around.

can you tell me the best brand for ice skates?

please answer if you are sure only

Can someone tell me the best ice hockey skates brand?
There is no one brand that is better then their counterparts on the market. All the brands offer top quality high-end skates to basement pond hockey bargains.

When selecting skates first determine the price range you can afford, then buy the BEST fitting pair of skates you can find! Comfort and support are key to skates... ill fitting skates no matter the brand will effect your skating.
Reply:Bauer
Reply:There is no "best" there are good grands though. CCM is very good, as are Bauer, Easton, and Graf. Each has a different feel, and you need to try on boots from each to see which boot shape fits you best. I really like CCM skates, so that's waht I use, but there's no "best"
Reply:There is no 'best', there is only what is 'best for you'. Personally, I wear CCM's, but I have wide feet, and they make wider skates. so they feel great.

No right or wrong, only opinion.
Reply:Bauer
Reply:Bauer all the way!!
Reply:In my opinion grafs.
Reply:It depends on your foot shape. CCM, RBK are often for wider feet, Bauer and Easton fit regular feet, etc...

I've always worn Bauer and moved to Easton my last pair. I could never feel right in CCM as I felt their boot was too forward leaning. It's all personal preference.

Just as important as the boot is the blade. Tuuk, ICM, Razr, etc...

On top of that, having a good fit and feel means nothing if you don't have them contoured and sharpened properly according to your stance, stride, and weight.

Get them fit properly by someone in the business to start.

Reply:It'll help to know where you live so people can direct you to an actual store. Play-It-Again Sports has el cheapo sports equipment, but I don't know if there's one in your area because you didn't mention where you live.
Reply:I would and did take my little kiddo to a store specializing in hockey equipment. The reason being is that skates come a little different in their models (so a Bauer "7" will not fit the same as a CCM "7"), Bauer, for example, tend to be a better fit for people with long, slim feet, while CCM is generally a better match for wider feet.

Although many people tend to determine their size of shoes based on the distance from the heal to the toe, it's not a good way to buy skates (nor shoes for that matter). The measurements you need to concern yourself with are the arch and the distance from your heal to the Sesamoid bone (basically where your toes begin). If the toes then end up being "short in the skate," it's okay becasue the foot is stabile while the feet are still comfortable but snug (this is true even for regular shoes although it may take some time to get used to it in the beginning). Someone who works in a store can easily measure out your childs feet and order what you need (quick and easy). I have never heard of anyone being asked to pay for anything until you have tried the skates on and verified that they fit nicely - the stores can return any pair of skates as long as the blades hasn't been sharpened.

Also, my son has played hockey since he was 4, so I know how expensive it can get to buy new pads and gear as they grow up. I usually buy most everything from consignment stores, like Play-it-Again-Sports, and sell it back when he has outgrown something. However, skates can get a bit broken down and very uncomfortable the second time around, so I encourage you to spend a little bit more money on those as:

a) it's no fun to skate if you're not comfy.

b) We only have 2 feet and 2 ancles, and they are supposed to last us our entire lives without spares, so they're worth taking care of.

Sounds like a headache? The good news is that once you've found a model that works (in my sons case, CCM), you can usually stay with that brand and model (or the next generation of that model) as the years go by. The boot architechture doesn't change much.

Lastly, don't get caught up on all the bells and whistles. It's about having fun and enjoying innocent play. Remember that our children may love skating today, but one day they wake up and want to play the piano, at what point we all have to run out for a new Steinway %26amp; Sons and build out the living room for added space and optimized acoustics.

I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you get out there to skate as well! It's something my son still talks about and wants to do when the "season" is over and the ice time frees up.

I would prefer white figure skates, but anything is good. I don't mean online stores..

Does anyone know any stores that sell Ice Skates?
Skating stores are anywhere but you must be conscient that not all of them carry real figure skating boots that will be good to support big jumps...

You must know that the blade and the boot most of the times are sold separately... only beginner's skates come with the blade attached to the boot as a unit.

The best way for you to find your retailer is to go to the web sites of the leading boot makers (and I'm leaving you a bit of "googoling" to do) and ask for the reatiler nearest to your area...

The most known skate boots are:

Risport, Riedell, SP -Teri, GAM and Klingbeil (which are custom made in your feet)

Most known blades are:

It depends, are they the "bakeable" kind?

Have they been baked before? if so, then I doubt it. Once they are baked, they tend to stay that way....

Good luck,

Steve.
Reply:Sure you can. I did after 5.5 months of wearing mine.
Reply:yes you can and with any new boot these days you should get them baked before doing anything in them.... Just take them to your pro shop.
Reply:Yeah they can bake them at any point however if your foot grows after they are baked they will not give so thank about it, i still get my skates baked.

Just take the to your local ice rink and they can bake them for you
Reply:Yes you can, it doesn't matter how long you've had them (though it is best to bake before using them first).

Be careful though because you can only bake them a certain amount of times; usually 3. Also, be sure not to use them for 24 hours after baking.
Reply:yes you can

Is it bad to leave my hard guards on my skates?

After I skate, I wipe them down and put soft guards on. After they get dry, I put my hard guards back on. (This is all after I take them off.) Is this bad for my skates? I know they can't rust because there is no moisture on the blades.

Is it bad to leave my hard guards on my skates?
If you're not going to be walking in your skates off of the ice, don't leave your guards on your skate blades. Plastic does not absorb moisture and will actually help to speed up the corrosion of your blades as this promotes rusting. To keep your blades from rusting, when not walking in your skates off-ice, take off the guards and wipe the blades dry with a terry cloth and/or shammie to dry off the water. Then place on soakers (terri clothe coverings for your blades) to soak up any extra moisture from temperature change.
Reply:well,it is actually better to wipe your skates down, then put your soakers on.leave your soakers on for about an hour so they can, you know, soak.and then after an hour put on your hard guards.
Reply:Yes, this is bad for your blades as there is still moisture on the hard guards from wearing them when you get off the ice. The best way to store your skates is with the soft guards on.
Reply:Yes, even though you have dried off your skates there is still moisture in the guards which can cause the blades to still rust. It's best to store them in the soft guards until you will be putting them back on to walk on them again.
Reply:I think what your doing is good, its kinda what I do. But if you don't dry them or they aren't completely dry then they can get rusty happened to me twice but sometimes when you sharpen them the rust comes off.
