How often are you supposed to sharpen your ice skates?

How often are you supposed to sharpen your ice skates?
Depending on how often you skate depends on how often you should sharpen them. Generally they say about 20 hours of skating before you get them sharpened, but you will learn to do it more or less depending on how you like your skates.
Reply:Depending on how much you skate, it is either every 3-6 weeks or every 18-20 hours.
Reply:depends on...

-how often you skate

-the type of skating that you are doing (ice dance, synchro, free skate)

-the type of blade that you have

-the quality of ice that you skate on

-the age of your blade
Reply:it depends i skate every week for 5 hours 3 traning sessions and i am a goalie i sharpen them mabey1s a mont but my freands say once every two weeks

just get your nail and run the back of your nail on one of the edges and depending on how much nail comes of is dependent of ho much sharpening you need

its really a personal thing you need to get your skates sharpend when you think they need it but dont do it to much becouse you will ware the blade down.
Reply:It depends on how much you skate, how hard you skate . . . and your preference! Rough ice and walking around even on the rink mats without your guards can dull your blades faster too.

They generally say 20-30 hours of skating. If your blades start getting dull, your blades can't grip the ice properly . . .essentially you'll be slipping . . . and even if it's slight, it can affect your spins and jumps!

I personally loved dull blades. But I left it for so long and didn't sharpen them til they were really bad. The longer you leave them, the bigger the adjustment you will probably have to make after you get them sharpened (and you WILL notice your "new" edges - oh you will feel like you're sticking to the ice!!). So I don't recommend extending your sharpening time too long!! On the flip side, if you sharpen them too often, you shorten the life of your blades.
