What kind of roller skates do you use?
Wheels and bearings play an important part in decision making to purchase new roller skates. If you are just looking for a basic rec quad skate to take on a path and inside a rink - I suggest the basic 30mm Suregrip aerobic wheels (running about $30 for the set of 8), with grease bearings. For something a little more advanced, I suggest Suregrip Motion Wheels with oil bearings. Oil bearings are for enhanced speed. Riedell makes some pretty top of the line boots, but I've used Dominion before. (I upgraded to the Riedell's because they are well-cushioned, but I also do evening group skates, as well as path and rink skating. And I skate every week. The wheels are 62mm Suregrip motions with oil bearings. I also bought toe guards.)

The bigger the wheel - the more stable you are - however you will also gain greater speed. And you can also choose a bigger wheel without upgrading to an oil bearing (it's really a matter of how comfortable you are with skating). Another note about wheels - you cannot use an indoor wheel outdoors, but you can use an outdoor wheel indoors.

Try to get your skates at a skate shop, as some of them will even throw in lifetime labor. Also, they will be able to provide a certain level of expertise to assist you in getting the proper skate for your needs - as many of the employees are skaters themselves. And the wheels would be easier to switch out - a service most should also provide at only a cost of the new wheels.

Bottom line is to consider your ability, and work within that. Like I mentioned before, you can get a pair of skates that can suit multiple purposes. It will all depend on the wheel, bearing, and boot.
Reply:it depend what kind of skating you are interested in.
