Are there any benifits to NOT wearing socks in hockey skates?

Ive heard it gives a better fit to you ankle preventing injuries, If true is this benifit worth the stink that would be my skates, im getting a new pair and plan to invest a bit into them.

Are there any benifits to NOT wearing socks in hockey skates?
Some guys wear no socks for the feel of the skate on the foot. It gives a better fit so to say. I personally wear a thin moisture wicking sock when i skate. It also seems to be the trend as they provide a more comfortable fit and feel . I have $600 GRAF's and being all leather it would be foolish not wear a good sock in them. The sweat from the foot could cause them to break down and rot prematurely. One more tip... always pull the insole out of your skate after you use them there is moisture under the liner that causes rotting and a very bad smell. It is probably the most important thin to do for skate maintenance.
Reply:Yeah..it feels like 300 times better...wearing socks in skates makes absolutely no sense to me and will never figure out the people who do that. Wearing socks under skates has absolutely no advantages except more laundary and soaking wet feet
Reply:one benefit is that it is one less pair of dirty socks for you to wash :P but i think u can get fungus or possibly an infection from not wearing socks. Think about, without socks it is easier to get a blister from your skates. If your blister happens to pop, or if its not a blister at all and u just got a cut, you can get an infection from the bacteria already in your skates. How about stick with wearing socks? Although itll mean more laundry..hey it might mean the difference in having ur foot amputated or not.
Reply:pros:

-slightly less laundry

cons:

blister-ridden feet that hurt so bad you won't be able to walk for a week

-really, REALLY bad smelling skates

(i don't think makes any difference sa far as ankle injuries go)
Reply:They won't bunch up under your toes. But man it makes your skates smell bad.
Reply:Yeah... have you ever had a hockey skate rub on bare skin? Imagine that happening all over.
Reply:Wear socks, heck wear 2 pairs of socks. No benifit to no socks and no it can't prevent injuries.
Reply:You can be certain no one will want to borrow or steal YOUR skates. PPP-UUU!!!!!
Reply:-not wearing socks will not prevent injuries.

-it is just a preference thing.

-i would recommend wearing socks when you are breaking your skates in

-not wearing socks will cause blisters when you are breaking your skates in.
