What is the best way to clean hockey skates?

I was about to go skating yesterday and I found that my skates had some nasty stuff in it (I have no clue what it is). What is the best way to clean them without damaging them?

What is the best way to clean hockey skates?
just use some stuff that you get in the cleaning spots in stores.

Use a washcloth.
Reply:Sorry, don't clean my stuff, old school, except the blades. Dry them so they don' trust and let the inside air out, DON'T store them in your bag all the time. try some Lysol it might be some kind of mold or mildew, then wipe down, goodluck
Reply:I noticed you said, inside your skate. Use warm soapy water, but dont get them soak, just use a wet cloth, to wipe them out, and always take the footbeds out, when your not skating, you dont want all that moisture, staying inside them.
Reply:get the stuff at a sports store
Reply:That is rust from oxidation of H20 on steel.

Take a "terry" cloth or a cleaner rag and wipe down you blades after you done skating. They make blade "booties" that fit around your blades so they retain their sharpness and don't nick up other things in your bag
Reply:Polish. Are your skates plastic? Leather - Leather polish - DUH!! If they are plastic, get a sponge and some polish! Hope this helps!
Reply:soak them in coca cola
