What is the best way to break in new figure skates?

I just bought new figure skates(jacksons) and i haven;t skated in over 1 year becuase of a broken leg i only skate once a week how long will it take to break them in? would it help to walk around in them?

What is the best way to break in new figure skates?
From experience, I've found you can do a few things to help break them in, but nothing beats just actually skating in them. While you're watching TV or just hanging out at home, put your skates on (with plastic guards, of course) and walk around in them a little to help them mold to your feet. If you have heat moldable skates -- which I've never had because I'm old school :) -- of course have that done. The first time you skate in them, don't go crazy right away. Start slow, do lots of back crossovers, swizzles and other things that are going to get you using your ankles. When you find spots that rub, put Bunga pads or round makeup sponges in the spot to help protect your poor feet and piggies! Also, don't lace them up all the way right off the bat. Maybe skip lacing the last hole and skip the top hook to allow for more movement and flexability. If you're having problems around your ankle with the tounge and sides rubbing, which always causes my ankles to bleed -- yuck! -- cut the top off of a sock and wear it around your ankle/leg area to protect it.

The amount of time it's going to take depends on how often you skate and how hard you skate. If you're jumping, spinning and doing lots of crossovers, they'll probably break in sooner than if you're working on the basics.

Congrats on the new skates -- I asked Santa for a new pair for me! :)
Reply:i heard it takes atleast 10 days to break in to..
Reply:Yes it would help to walk in them. And at night, when you don't wear them, but a coca cola bottle in it, the glass kind. I used to do that, and it helps!
Reply:It takes a long time, but what i do is put them on me (w/ guard on them) and just walk around w/ them

u might look stupid if u go outside but it really works :D
Reply:Well make sure you don't skate in the first or else you will get blisters easily so you might want to do a couple of theses things off ice at home. Put on your tights or thin socks and walk around with them on for about 30 minutes off ice. It does take about 10 practices with your new skates until they start to be more comfortable. For more ways to break in your skates faster and with more comfort try going to this site for more help:http://nmnm.essortment.com/newfigureskat...

Hope this helped!! =)
Reply:Put hard guards on and just walk around your house in them. I do that every time I get new skates and it helps a ton!
