How much room should there be between your big toe and the end of the boot w/aggressive skates?

I just bought my son some new skates and there's about 1/4 of an inch, maybe less. Is that enough room? Should I have gone up a size?

Skates should fit similar to shoes. 1/4 inch seems sorta small and depending on your son's age he'll probably grow out of them sooner rather than later. Once he gets into jumping gaps and doing grinds he may find that he's jamming his toes into the front of the skate quite often. Be sure that there is enough room and padding between the front of his skate and his toes for this to not happen.





On the flip side, the danger with skates being too big is that they will be heavy and awkward to wear and will make learning to skate more difficult.





If he's already taken the new skates outside you likely won't be able to return them, but keep some of these things in mind when getting the next pair.
